NLP Patterns

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) includes a number of fantastic techniques using specific language patterns like metaphors, anchoring, reframing, and others. These techniques can be used in business for increasing activity, the customer base, and for increasing productivity within the team. Some of these techniques or patterns might be referred to as manipulative, but however they are referred, they usually have astounding results.

Patterns are also used widely for medical reasons and have been known to increase the recovery rates in patients with all types of ailments, particularly phobias or manias. Almost always, when these techniques are applied, they bring about positive change in the subjects behavior and attitude.

Sometimes our methods of communication can be inferior, meaning that a better choice of words could have been used, and with better results. Generalizing our statements is a classic example of this, where we may say to someone “you always slip over” when in fact that statement can’t be true. If someone was to “always” slip over, they would not have ever been able to stand, and we all know that unless the person has a physical disability stopping them from standing, this statement must be wrong.

A statement like this shows an intense lack of sensibility on the part of the person saying it. To state something so far from the truth is not a good thing to do, and it also shows a pure laziness of thought. Using such a negative form of communication can only leave a bad impression for the recipient, and this is where the fundamental problems lie in a world without the NLP patterns.

It is almost impossible for any human being not to have any influence on another person. A positive or a negative influence is imminent and either one is spread over varying levels. The language we use, and the words we choose to either persuade someone or to manipulate them. Even when we are not communicating via audible language we are still communicating through our behavior and our body language.

This is considered an open form of communication, and has formed the basis for all interaction between humans, and even animals. With this inherent characteristic we can either make a positive difference or hurt someone, and all without words.

All forms of communication have the potential to create an impression, to either persuade or manipulate a recipient. As with NLP patterns, it is important to learn to incorporate the art of positive persuasion into every interaction, and over time with lots of practice, this will inevitably become a subconscious skill. By learning how to present our thoughts and ideas in a more positive and effective manner, constructively and with relevance, we enable the audience to accept, interact and understand us in the desired manner.

It is also important to understand the intent behind the persuasion, to determine whether it is a moral and productive change in the recipient. We must understand that as many people use these patterns for good, there are also many people who see them as a way to manipulate for profit, personal gain, and abuse. This is why understanding is more important than simply hearing the communication.
